Sitting in a corner behind glass, trapped like an animal, was Nr.235. All that was left of a once good looking girl was a deformed mass barely recognizable as human. She didn't know how or why. All that was left was a shred of hope. Time and place were lost to her; all that was left was an empty mind. She just was.
She was lucky enough not to have been assigned to a chemical warfare laboratory, or unlucky enough to have been assigned to the radiation poisoning testing facility. The pains you would have to endure in both are pretty much the same, but you live longer in the radiation poisoning lab, if you can call that a life.
"How is 235 today?" Said the fat scientist to his colleagues upon entering the room.
"Doing fine, if you ignore her appearance" one said.
"Did the impregnation process go as planned?"
"Well, we did encounter some minor problems, but it's was taken care of."
"Hmm, it's hard to believe that 235 is going to be a mother."
Lately she noticed a change in the behavior of the scientists, they were observing her more closely and her belly started growing larger. She knew she was no longer alone, she felt that one other... The strange lights still shed their light on her, but now she could feel 2 distinct pains instead of just one. Her baby was in pain. The realization that she had a living creature inside of her made her terribly afraid of what may become of it. During the next couple of days she kept having these strange pains in her belly, and the people behind the glass were all dressed in white and were gathering around her. Her baby was ready to be born. After 15 minutes of intense pain she heard the most beautiful sound in the world, her baby's cry. She stretched out her arms, aching to hold her baby, but she didn't get that chance. The baby was immediately placed into a plastic incubator. She had to watch them take her away, eyes full of tears. "Why?" was the first thing she said after a long time, that was also the last word she would ever speak. The next moment she was lying on the floor, dead. Her purpose was now fulfilled.
he next day, another woman was brought into the same room, number 236...
