1.   To understand the influence of our civilisation on the groundwater: the Big Creek that runs down on unpolluted hill (natl. park Medvednica). It is affected by the dark side of contemporary industrial civilisation and is subjected to the irresponsabilities and ill conscience of human.

2.   To make a great number of students aware of the sources of pollution as well as of the ways in which the urban surroundings influence on groundwater.

3.   To promote permanent interest in the enviroment and in the changes caused by man`s activities.

   According to these goals, the teachers located three points of the Big Creek for the neccesary measurments. The students would:

• Collect the samples of water for chemical analyses.
• Take water for biological analyses.
• Determine colour and transparency of water.
• Measure the temperature of air, water and ground.
• Measure the flow of the water in the creek.

   We started with field work on Friday, 21st Jan. 2000, continued on Saturday, 29th Jan. and repeated it each eight days until the 10th of March. All together, we collected samples seven times.
