I live in one of the most beautiful cities of the world. In our city there are many rivers, streams and just small ditches. So, there is no lack of water. Many people call St. Petersburg the North Venice. And there is a reason: Buildings of Venice stand sinking in the water. And the most interesting is that we had on more flood just 2 days ago.

Scientists affirm, that they can do a forecast about a flood before 7-10 hours to it. But it is not enough to prevent the situation. Often a flood comes at night and it troubles the situation too. This time (on the 19 ^th October) water raised for 2 meters and 20 centimetres. But sometimes water overflowed many streets and houses near Neva. The Vasilyevsky island district suffers especially. My grandmother told me many years ago she was running along Nevsky prospect from the water. The Anichkov Bridge saved her. The water stopped there.

To save the city people began to build a dam some years ago. But the construction was stopped because of ecological reasons. The water started to flower in the Bay. Also a smell of rotting appeared there. So the city’s government faces a difficult dilemma.

I want my city to be beautiful. I want our rivers and the channels to be worn at beautiful banks. Recently the government of our city has done a granite embankment for the Obvodnay canal. Authorities took measures to clean the canal. I hope that it will be beautiful too.

And it is a small river just near my house. The rive1s name is Volkovka. There are picturesque trees on its banks. Just near the water coast grows. It is such a beautiful river, but it is so dirty. I can not clean the rives water myself. But I am going to clean the banks of the river with the help of youth’s brigades in summer. There is a work service for youths in the city. It admits young people to earn some money. They clean the city.

It is a very important matter, I think. And I want to participate.
